A pharmaceutical company has said the U. S. Food and Drug Administration will issue a warning to its consumer medicine agency about the potential for an increased risk of the deadly erectile dysfunction drug Viagra, which can cause dangerously low blood pressure.
The FDA said it will issue an official warning, but the agency said there would be no "black-box warning" for Viagra and other drugs. The warning is due to take effect in April. The FDA has not yet issued a specific statement regarding the drug, and it said it still has a responsibility to inform consumers about the potential risk of Viagra.
"Viagra is a drug that has been used to treat erectile dysfunction, and while there is no specific warning about this use, there are several other drugs that are used to treat this condition, and some of which may have increased risks of this condition," the FDA said.
